Passport rules
The usual rule is a passport valid for at least 6 months. Until December 31, 2026, tourists from the U.S., the UK, Canada and the EU only need a passport valid for their whole stay; Australians still need 6 months.
- Australians: Australians are not covered by the temporary easing: at least 6 months.
- U.S. citizens: For tourism, a passport valid for your whole stay is enough until December 31, 2026 (a temporary measure); after that, 6 months unless it is extended.
- British citizens: For tourism, a passport valid for your whole stay is enough until December 31, 2026 (a temporary measure); after that, 6 months unless it is extended.
- Canadians: For tourism, a passport valid for your whole stay is enough until December 31, 2026 (a temporary measure); after that, 6 months unless it is extended.
- EU citizens: For tourism, a passport valid for your whole stay is enough until December 31, 2026 (a temporary measure); after that, 6 months unless it is extended.
Airlines check this at check-in. If your passport is close to the limit, renew it first: see the 6-month passport rule explained.
Changing planes in Dominican Republic
- All these passports: Nothing extra if you stay airside. Air tickets for passengers whose final destination isn’t the Dominican Republic don’t include the tourist card. We could not confirm whether the e-Ticket is needed for an airside connection.

Good to know
- A US$20 departure tax is included in airline tickets.

Where official sources differ
- When to fill in the e-Ticket: GOV.UK says up to 7 days before arrival; the Dominican tourism ministry says as soon as you have your flight details, even months ahead.
- The Dominican tax office’s tourist card page lists Latvia and Romania among countries needing a visa, while the tourism ministry says EU citizens don’t need one. Latvian and Romanian citizens should confirm with a Dominican consulate.
