Schengen 90/180 calculator
Visitors who don’t need a visa can spend up to 90 days in any 180-day period across all 29 Schengen countries together. Every day in the area counts, including the days you arrive and leave.

How the 90/180 rule works
On any day you are in the Schengen area, look back over the 180 days ending that day. You can have spent at most 90 of them in the area. It is a rolling window, so days from a trip drop off exactly 180 days later; there is no reset when you leave.
- Arrival and departure days both count as full days, even if you land at 11 p.m.
- All Schengen countries count together. The members are: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland.
- Not in Schengen: Ireland, Cyprus and the UK have their own rules. Days there don’t count toward the 90.
- Changing planes at a Schengen airport without passing passport control doesn’t count as a day in the area.
- EU, EEA and Swiss citizens are not limited by this rule.
- Since the Entry/Exit System (EES) started, your entries and exits are recorded electronically at the border, so overstays are detected automatically. See the ETIAS and EES timeline.
Staying longer than 90 days needs a national long-stay visa or residence permit from the country concerned. Some countries also have older bilateral agreements with certain nationalities; those are case by case: ask that country’s embassy.
