Passport rules

GOV.UK says at least 6 months after the day you arrive; the Government of Canada says valid for your stay. We couldn’t read a Brazilian page on this, so 6 months is the safe choice.

  • British citizens: Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after the day you arrive.
  • Canadians: The Government of Canada says valid for your whole stay; GOV.UK’s 6-month advice is the safer margin.

Airlines check this at check-in. If your passport is close to the limit, renew it first: see the 6-month passport rule explained.

Changing planes in Brazil

We couldn’t confirm Brazil’s airside transit rule for U.S., Canadian and Australian citizens from an official page; the trip check doesn’t decide it. Check with your airline.

  • U.S. citizens, Canadians and Australians: Not confirmed.
  • British citizens and EU citizens: Nothing extra if you stay airside. No visa needed.

Good to know

  • Brazil’s government websites block automated reading, so we confirmed the eVisa rule and fee from Brazilian consulate pages and check them by hand every month.

Where official sources differ

  • Passport validity: GOV.UK says 6 months after arrival; the Government of Canada says valid for your stay.
  • eVisa validity: Brazilian consulate pages cite different periods (5 or 10 years); the visa itself shows yours.
